Hundreds of thousands of people marched this May 1st, filling the streets with joy and energy in support of the government and the social transformations that people voted for in 2022. We were an immense river that flowed in defense of life, peace and the progress of Colombia. It was a historic march, which filled the center of Bogotá and more than a hundred streets and squares throughout the country.

What we experienced was massive support for a political project, for a desire for a better country, for a hope for a prosperous nation, for democracy and for the social rule of law. The affection was felt in an obvious, sincere way, despite what sectors in the opposition want to make people think that, with lies and manipulation, seek to distance the people from the government.

The people marched because they are not deluded. He marched because he knows their needs and knows that we are living in a historic moment, a window of opportunity in which, like never before, there is a true possibility of materializing the transformations for which we have fought so hard.

Colombia filled the streets to recover the dignity of the worker, so that people do not continue to believe that slavery and indignity are the source of wealth, because we are the country that works the most hours in the OECD, but also the one that proportionally less produces.

In the squares they shouted in favor of a project that understands that health cannot be a business rather than a right. Those who oppose the reform think that it is wrong to territorialize resources, recover hospitals and reverse inequality. While 8 of 10 municipalities have very low potential access to health services and a ranking put Colombia 81 out of 110 in quality of the health system, in the Reform debate the opposition said that we were a world reference. They lie because they don’t want anything to change.

The people came out in support of a pension reform that seeks to ensure that more than 2 million grandfathers and grandmothers escape extreme poverty and that all people can access a pension income; Today, barely half of the elderly receive crumbs and only one woman in 8 receives a pension. The reform is so that everyone, especially those people who grow old with leathery hands and dirt on their nails, have dignity in their old age.
