Five injured in a traffic accident in Carinthia

Five people were injured in a traffic accident that occurred on Friday around 12.45 p.m. on the southern motorway near Tainach (Völkermarkt district).

A Viennese (48) was driving his car from Vienna towards Italy; there were four other people in the vehicle. For reasons that are still unclear, he veered off the right side of the road and collided with the guardrail. Due to the force of the impact, the vehicle was thrown across the road against the concrete center barrier and slid another 40 meters until it came to a stop. The right front wheel was torn off in the collision.

Taken to the hospital

The driver and his passenger were injured to an unspecified degree and were taken to the Klagenfurt Clinic after receiving initial medical treatment. The other occupants were slightly injured and were treated by emergency services on site. Until 2 p.m., the immediate area of the accident was only accessible in one lane. The badly damaged vehicle was towed from the scene of the accident by a company.

The Völkermarkt and Poggersdorf volunteer fire departments were on duty. The roadway was cleaned by the Klagenfurt motorway maintenance department.
