Salim Berrada, the so-called ‘Tinder rapist’, was sentenced to eighteen years in prison by a Paris court on Friday for the rape and sexual abuse of fifteen women. The 38-year-old Moroccan former photographer must also leave French territory.
Berrada was found guilty by the court of twelve rapes and three counts of sexual abuse. He was acquitted for two other offences.
The facts took place between 2014 and 2016, each time with women he had met through dating apps, such as Tinder, and social media.
The public prosecutor had demanded nineteen years in prison for the man it described as “an insatiable egocentric hunter”.
Berrada himself continued to deny that he abused women. According to him, the relationships were consensual and some claims were completely fabricated. In his last word he declared that he is “not the monster mentioned”.
