PIACENZA (ITALPRESS) – Published in the prestigious “Journal of Medical Internet Research” an important study coordinated by the cardiology and anesthesia of the Piacenza hospital, together with the Monzino Cardiology Center, the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering of the Polytechnic of Turin, at the Dalle Molle Institute of Artificial Intelligence in Lugano and at the Toelt Institute in Zurich. Researchers have developed for the first time in Italy a system capable of predicting the risk of death of patients with Covid-19 pneumonia. The technique used is revolutionary and is based on “Machine Learning”, according to which the machine learns independently from the data provided, constantly improving its predictive capabilities and identifying correlations. In the study, the use of this technique allowed the creation of a web application (https://covid.7hc.tech) able to help the doctor in determining the right therapeutic procedure based on the severity of the patient and, consequently, drastically reducing the use of unnecessary or ineffective drugs. The website is available free of charge to the entire medical-scientific community engaged in the fight against the virus. The research was conducted by Geza Halasz and Michela Sperti, with the collaboration of Umberto Michelucci and Matteo Villani, coordinated by Massimo Piepoli and Massimo Nolli (for the medical part) and by Marco Agostino Deriu and Dario Piga (for the engineering part). .
