ROMANO CANAVESE. About a hundred Romanians took part in the meeting on unsorted waste organized by the municipal administration in front of the multipurpose hall of the former Cascine mill. Mayor Oscarino Ferrero, flanked by Deputy Mayor Miriam Salussolia and Councilor Gianluca Lalli, explained at the beginning the new methods of disposing of unsorted waste, as provided for in the ordinance issued on August 3, 2021 “for public interests related to the environment and territory”.

With this ordinance, contested during and after the meeting by the council minorities, the Municipality of Romano has joined the project initiated by the SCS, for now with 12 of the 57 participating Municipalities, for the reduction of unsorted waste with the aim of reducing high costs of disposal and to decrease the undifferentiated waste produced from the current 161 to 125 kilograms per year, in 2025.

As a result of this ordinance, after an initial period of transition and joint verification of the contents of the semitransparent orange bags of the undifferentiated collected by the SCS on Wednesday of each week, from the beginning of November there will be penalties for non-compliant parties starting from 25 euros. to get up to 500 euros for repeat offenders. The novelty, in essence, is that the orange bags will have to be used for the undifferentiated. Black ones will no longer be admitted. The deputy mayor Miriam Salussolia, and more technically the communication manager of the SCS Silvia Orlandini, answered with great determination to the numerous questions for clarification on the differentiation methods and also to the various criticisms on the management of the waste collection service by the SCS. technical manager Alessia Cabrio.

“In the Municipalities of Azeglio, Burolo, Candia, Cuceglio, Mazzè, Pavone, Salerano, Samone, San Martino, Tavagnasco, Villareggia, where the project was started in 2021 – explained Orlandini – the collection of unsorted waste was reduced by a a measure that varies from 15 to 30 per cent, with a significant saving on the current disposal costs of 155 euros per ton ”.

The explanations provided did not convince all those present, some of whom contested, among other things, the decision to set the cost of obtaining an additional supply of orange bags over 52 assigned to average families of 4 people at 5 euros, and also the alleged violation of privacy, due to the verification of the contents of the semi-transparent orange bags, promptly refuted by the SCS official. “It was a serious mistake of the mayor to sign the ordinance and join this project which will not actually lead to any reduction in the Tari tariff but only a complication in the disposal of the Romans – declared the group leader at the end of the meeting. minority Stefano De Bei – and will not have any follow-up because it will not be implemented in the majority of the 57 Municipalities adhering to the SCS ».

During the evening, leaflets of the SC were distributed to those presents on separate collection and recycling of waste, and the distribution of orange bags to households and businesses was announced.
