There was sleet in high-altitude mountainous areas such as the military camp village, and frost covered the trees. Many citizens and friends living in Haicang, Jimei and the island also posted pictures in the Moments, exclaiming “Xiamen is snowing”.

At around 16:00 yesterday, the Xiamen National Basic Meteorological Station detected that the temperature dropped to 5.0°C, a new low since the beginning of winter last year. The military camp village is even colder, the temperature dropped to -0.1 ℃ at 15:56 yesterday.
“At about 10:30, sleet began to fall in the village, and the drizzle was mixed with scattered white snowflakes. We specially took the umbrella out to pick it up, and the snowflakes melted as soon as they fell on the umbrella.” Yesterday, Su Yinban, a villager in Junying Village, told reporters that in order to resist the cold, many villagers used electric heaters and built bonfires in their homes. Many citizens and tourists even made a special trip up the mountain to see “Spring Snow”.
At about 18:00 yesterday, ice began to form near Jinshan Pavilion in the military camp village, and small crystal icicles hung from the branches and grass.
In order to avoid low-temperature frostbite on vegetables, as early as two days ago, after learning about the weather, the villagers went down to the fields to carry out cold-fighting work and covered the vegetables with black wire mesh.

The temperature in Xiamen seemed very low yesterday, but it was “not enough” compared with the historical low. According to statistics from the Meteorological Department, on January 25, 2016, Xiamen experienced a rare cold wave. The lowest temperature in the urban area dropped to 0.1 °C, and the lowest temperature in the military camp village was -8.8 °C. This was the coldest day in Xiamen since meteorological records began.
