Germain Kambinga calls on Félix Tshisekedi to initiate a referendum to revise the constitution

Germain Kambinga’s “Le Center” party asked Félix Tshisekedi on Tuesday January 23 to initiate a referendum to revise the Constitution and affirms that the people will be behind him.

This political movement believes that we must move to the 4th Republic and the presidential term should increase from 5 to 7 years. The president of this party, Germain Kambinga declared this Tuesday, January 23 during a press briefing in Kinshasa.

He also listed the priorities of Félix Tshisekedi’s second term, including the voting method for leaders at different levels, the financing and organization of elections and the democratization of political parties.

“…Besides, it must be remembered, the current constitution has always been fiercely opposed by some. Yesterday, they fought it before the 2005 referendum, today they are its great defenders. The transition to the 4th Republic and the subsequent constitutional change are an imperative which absolutely requires political will. We also believe that the strong legitimacy enjoyed by the President of the Republic following his re-election represents a unique opportunity to offer a second wind to the Congo on the difficult path to its emergence. Mr. President of the Republic, dare, the people will follow you,” declared Germain Kambinga in substance.
