A 16-year-old German girl who went missing during a skiing holiday in South Tyrol, Italy, has been found dead. The girl probably died after a fall, local authorities report.

The girl had left the holiday home where she was staying with her family early on Friday morning to take a mountain walk in San Candido, a municipality in the Italian province of South Tyrol, located in the Dolomites. Because she had still not returned after several hours, her family reported her missing.

A major search was launched, which unfortunately had a tragic outcome: on Friday afternoon around 2 p.m., the lifeless body of the teenager was found at the foot of a mountain path, at an altitude of 1,450 meters. Everything indicates that the girl slipped during her walk and fell several meters down. Attempts were made to resuscitate the girl, but help could no longer help.

An investigation into the death was opened and the local prosecutor ordered an autopsy on the body. This should determine whether the girl died as a result of the fall, whether she froze to death or whether something else may have happened.
