It is estimated that almost 200,000 people with a Latin American migration background live in Germany. In the 1970s, many fled the military dictatorships. More and more skilled workers are being poached. Global crises become a reason to flee. There are also other very different motivations. Even if, overall, the spatial movements of people have far-reaching consequences for the lives of those who migrate and from which social change results. Usually associated with a longer-term stay elsewhere and as a relocation of the center of life of individuals, families or collectives. Migrations determine human history. The term "Migration" was and is always given different meanings and connoted differently in different contexts. Migration is rarely understood simply as a processual departure or change of location. Migration is usually thought of as a reaction to crises, catastrophes and deficits and its consequences are demonized as a threat to prosperity and cultural homogeneity. Today, migrations are also understood as forced migrations with which people react to human rights violations, various forms of violence and domination, colonialism and racism. Migration can be spoken of as a form of resistance.
