With the arrival of Holy Week, Girardota, in the north of Antioquia, prepares to commemorate the 257 years of the presence of the Fallen Lord in its territory, a wooden figure of Jesus Christ that rests in the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Rosary, bringing I have a long history of faith and devotion.

More than 80,000 tourists are expected to arrive in this religious municipality during Semana Mayor, who will participate in various liturgical activities commemorating the Fallen Lord. Since his arrival in 1767, brought from Quito, Ecuador, by Dr. Carlos de Molina y Cataño, this figure has been venerated by his faithful, who attribute various miracles to him.

Mayor Kevin Bernal, aware of the historical and religious value that the Fallen Lord represents for Girardota, has implemented actions in his government plan to recover the religious cultural traditions of the municipality, with the aim of encouraging religious tourism to the region.

«The department of Antioquia has the image of the Fallen Lord of the municipality of Girardota located in the north of the department; “The administration wants to make this devotion of the Catholic faith more visible and encourage religious tourism to our municipality,” said Mayor Kevin Bernal.

During Holy Week in 2024, various activities will be carried out in honor of the Fallen Lord, with the logistical support of the Mayor’s Office and the collaboration of the National Police, Civil Defense, Red Cross and other entities in charge of the security and well-being of own and visitors.

The intention of the local leader is that the devotion to the Fallen Lord is not limited only to Holy Week, but rather that it remains alive throughout the year, allowing people to visit the cathedral and contribute to the religious commerce of the municipality.

During the municipality’s patron saint festivities, which take place at the end of the month of November, various celebrations are held in honor of the Fallen Lord, including processions, eucharists, novenas and tributes. Additionally, Eucharists and guided prayers are held in his honor on the first Saturdays of each month.

Girardota, with its roots deeply embedded in faith, continues to honor the Fallen Lord, a tradition that transcends time and strengthens the bond between the community and its spiritual patron.
