Hong Kong, February 25, 2024 – The promotion of Chinese culture in Hong Kong is reaching new heights, as recent theatrical performances have captivated audiences and set off a craze in the city. The Opera House of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts saw a full house for Shenzhen’s original dance drama “Wing Chun” and the debut of the dance poetry drama “Only Green – Dance Painting “Thousand Miles of Rivers and Mountains”” was completely sold out.

The push to promote Chinese culture in Hong Kong is part of the country’s “14th Five-Year Plan”, which supports the development of the city as a Chinese and foreign cultural and artistic exchange center. The establishment of an “Office for the Promotion of Chinese Culture” and the launch of a “Key Performing Arts Project Plan” are steps taken to enhance cultural exchanges and cooperation with the mainland, while also helping to promote the inheritance and promotion of Chinese culture in Hong Kong.

The deep-rooted connection between Chinese culture and Hong Kong has been highlighted through various exhibitions and performances, including the special exhibition “Gazing at Sanxingdui – New Archaeological Discoveries in Sichuan” and the “Tan Dun WE-Music Festival” that showcase the richness of Chinese civilization. These events have not only attracted local citizens but have also strengthened their sense of national identity and belonging.

Hong Kong’s West Kowloon Cultural District and the Hong Kong Palace Museum have become important platforms for promoting Chinese culture and fostering cultural exchanges between China and the West. The upcoming Hong Kong Performing Arts Expo and the “Chinese Culture Festival” will further showcase the city’s commitment to promoting Chinese culture on an international stage.

As Hong Kong continues to position itself as a hub for cultural exchanges and dialogue, it is expected to play a key role in telling the world the story of Chinese culture. With new initiatives and collaborations in the pipeline, Hong Kong’s cultural scene is set to create a broader space for development and contribute to building a culturally powerful country.
