Guangdong Province Energy Saving Publicity Week was officially launched on May 13, with a focus on “Green Transformation and Energy Conservation.” The event, organized by the Guangdong Provincial Development and Reform Commission and the Guangdong Provincial Energy Bureau, aims to raise awareness about energy conservation and promote the use of green technologies.
According to a report from the Guangdong Provincial People’s Government Portal, the province has made significant strides in energy efficiency in recent years. In 2023, Guangdong’s energy consumption per unit of GDP was only 67% of the national average. The province accounts for 7% of the country’s energy consumption and 5% of its carbon emissions, yet supports 9% of the population and 10.8% of the total economic output. Despite these challenges, Guangdong has managed to improve its energy efficiency and promote high-quality industrial development.
One key area of focus for Guangdong is the adoption of new energy vehicles. As of last year, the province had a total of 2.89 million new energy vehicles on the roads. This includes public charging piles for electric vehicles as well as private charging stations, making new energy transportation a top priority for the province.
At the launch ceremony, representatives from public institutions and key energy users pledged to support the theme of “green transformation and energy conservation.” Companies such as Zhuhai Gree Electric Appliances Co., Ltd., Midea Group Co., Ltd., and GAC Aian New Energy Vehicle Co., Ltd., showcased their latest energy-saving technologies and equipment products.
In an effort to reduce carbon emissions, the launch ceremony achieved carbon neutrality by purchasing Guangdong Carbon Pratt & Whitney Certified Emission Reductions (PHCER) for carbon offset and obtaining certification from the Guangzhou Carbon Emissions Exchange. The event was also paperless, with guests able to access meeting materials by scanning a QR code with their mobile phones, demonstrating the principles of energy conservation, low carbon, and efficiency.
Overall, the launch of Guangdong Province Energy Saving Publicity Week marks an important step towards promoting sustainable energy practices and driving towards a greener future for the province.
