Mon, 5:32 p.m.·Other·vogArtificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) extend to a variety of possible applications. Generative uses have been attracting a lot of attention in recent months, such as large language models such as ChatGPT and Bard as well as the AI-based generation of images using DALL-E or Stable Diffusion. Apple currently has nothing to show in this regard, but has been using ML and AI in iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Watch for years, for example in image recognition or deep fusion. In addition, Apple is working intensively on new applications and costs millions of US dollars every day (see ). Siri, for example, is expected to become significantly more intelligent and appear more human in the future.
AI features for Pages, Keynote and of course Siri
A number of the developments currently being worked on in Cupertino will come to light during this year’s WWDC. This is what Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman writes in his latest “Power On” newsletter. In June, Apple will present a whole range of generative AI tools. These include automatic summaries and auto-completion in some apps such as Pages and Keynote. The technology will also be used in Apple Music for the automated creation of playlists. Of course, Siri should not be missing in this context: Apple’s voice assistant is receiving a fundamental overhaul, writes Gurman, thus once again confirming earlier reports (see ).
Gurman: Most of Apple’s innovations will not be ready for the market until 2025
Apple is also working on a new version of Xcode. The development environment and other developer tools should, among other things, receive AI-based code completion. Customers should benefit from a new system that enables AppleCare employees to identify problems more quickly and solve them together with iPhone, iPad, Mac or Apple Watch owners. However, Gurman does not expect that all of the innovations mentioned will be available this year. He expects that most of the AI tools presented at WWDC will not be ready for the market until 2025. Apple therefore continues to lag significantly behind many competitors such as Samsung and Google when it comes to artificial intelligence, which they are likely to make known to the public.
