Health emergency declared in Pereira due to dengue outbreak

The secretary of health of Risaralda, Édgar Hernando Navarro Zuluaga announces that due to the weather conditions there has been an increase in dengue cases in the department, especially in the city of Pereira.

So far this year, 287 cases have been registered in Risaralda, of which 183 correspond to the municipality of Pereira. “In fact, today we were officially informed – says Navarro – that the Pereira Health Secretariat is declaring a health emergency due to dengue in the municipality.” This measure is done in order to take specific actions to contain the disease and avoid a greater increase in cases.

The department calls on all Rirasaldenses to protect their environments, washing tanks and all water reservoirs. And avoid leaving liquids accumulated in containers such as bottles, tires, vases, since these are the places where the mosquito egg proliferates and from there the disease is spread.

Likewise, it calls for unity between neighbors and to ensure that nearby environments are free of stagnant water.

From now on, the department works in coordination with the municipality of Pereira to find breeding sites. In addition, they have carried out fumigation in high incidence areas such as Caimalito, to try to reduce the rise in Dengue cases.
