On the anniversary of the birth of Dr. Hugo Guillermo González, since February 4, 1930, when a notable from this land was born, on days like today, his local intensity is highlighted, for his love of his birthplace, which was his soil. and sky, an intensity that for Hugo Guillermo constituted a star achieved and dedicated to adorn the city of Loja. Thus, before outlining him, it is worth saying the reason for calling him, “The Tireless One.”

Tireless for better days for his city, he became a doctor in 1957, with a diploma from the Central University of Ecuador, and a specialty in gynecology and obstetrics at the Alberto Peralta Ramos Institute in Argentina. Based on specialization, he explores and updates knowledge in Chile and Mexico.

Between 1964 and 1980 he was a professor at the National University of Loja, teaching Anatomy, Physiology, and Health Education. From 1978 to 1983 he worked at the Faculty of Medical Sciences, with the chairs: Environmental Sanitation and Hygiene, in addition, he was part of the University Council and director of the University Magazine of the National University of Loja.

But who was Hugo Guillermo really? In 1950 he wrote in the newspaper Surcos of the School of Medicine, in 1957 he edited the magazine LOJA, of the Association of Lojanos in Quito, accompanied by Isidro Ayora, Alejandro Carrión, MA Aguirre. In the period from 1965 to 1969 he was director of the Radio Station “Centinela del Sur”, and with the appearance of Channel 4 in Loja, he made weekly programs.

With his very fine charisma, gentleness and firm character, for thirty years and successively he wrote for the Loja newspapers: El Volante, El Cisne, El Grito del Pueblo, La Verdad, La Opinión del Sur, La Frontera, and El Siglo, in the latter was director. He collaborated with Nuevo Suceso Magazine, and was a columnist for: El Telégrafo and El Universo. Due to his desire to communicate, he was president of the National Union of Journalists at the Loja core. He wrote the work “HEALTH AND DEVELOPMENT”.

He volunteered in the Loja Youth Red Cross, cooperated and did work with “Operation Smile”, and carried out humanitarian missions on the border, due to the drought of 1967.

And this is a summary, observing that in 1960 he inaugurated the LOJA Maternity Clinic, being its director, and surrounded by doctors such as: Margarita González, Julia González, as associates, doctors: Luís Guillermo Reyes and Nelson Samaniego Rodríguez. In the laboratory, Dr. Amalia González.

Having left a deep mark on medicine, education and journalism, “Hugo Guillermo González, the tireless” left the earth on April 18, 1983. His heirs have created the “La Maternidad” Cultural Center in tribute to this famous man. that made history in Loja.
