The then partner of Annie De Poortere, who disappeared thirty years ago in Sint-Martens-Latem, has been arrested by the investigating judge in Ghent. The man has been placed under electronic surveillance. In 1999 he testified in the VTM investigative program ‘Oproep 2020’ about her sudden disappearance.

In March 1999, the 1994 disappearance was discussed in the investigation program ‘Call 2020’. The son and partner of Annie De Poortere had their say. Her husband then said that he last saw her that afternoon on the twelfth of November. “That was around noon, around 2 p.m. I first called the Sint-Camillus institute. For a recording. That couldn’t continue. We had to wait until Monday. It was full,” he testified at the time. Annie had already been admitted to a psychiatric clinic several times.

Lost clothes

“Of course she didn’t like to go inside,” her husband said. “I went to the supermarket for a few groceries. Then came home and left for the football. A few hours later I came home. In the meantime it was of course already dark. Then she was gone. Some clothes that were on the sofa were gone. I didn’t see her again.”

“I think she was wearing a foulard. A pair of glasses. A dark sweater with a red trim. Grey, exciting trousers. Black stockings and blue slippers.”

“How she left? On foot. She certainly didn’t have a passport with her, probably no money either.”
