Colombian firefighters demanded an exhaustive investigation from the authorities, as the fire units were intimidated.
On January 8, 2024, Chief Captain Arbey Hernán Trujillo Méndez, on behalf of the National Fire Department of Colombia, issued a statement in which he expressed his indignation at the events that occurred during an emergency intervention on the Corinto road. – Padilla, northern Cauca, on January 7, 2024.
Around 8:50 p.m., the M6 ambulance, with four crew members on board, responded to an accident call. At the scene they found a person injured by a firearm. During the transfer of the victim to the local hospital, armed individuals boarded the ambulance, intimidated the fire units and shot at the patient.
“This atrocious act not only threatens the integrity of our brave firefighters, but also shows the vulnerability of those who carry out the noble mission of assisting those in need.”
That organization strongly rejected any form of violence directed at medical mission vehicles and members of the Colombian Firefighters. Likewise, he demanded a thorough investigation to bring those responsible to justice. At the same time, he reaffirmed firefighters’ unwavering commitment to safety and community service.
