In the media, political leaders overshadow the ministers of the Draghi government

by admin

ROME (ITALPRESS) – The Italian media give more space to the major political leaders than to the ministers of the government led by Mario Draghi, who, however, as expected, is the most cited in the media (50,914 mentions). The figure emerges from the monitoring carried out on over 1,500 media sources including print media (national, local and periodical newspapers), newspaper sites, major radios, TVs and blogs by Mediamonitor.it, which uses technology and solutions developed by Cedat 85, an active company for over 35 years in providing speech content. Mediamonitor.it investigated what was the visibility of the new government from 25 February to 31 March, comparing it with that of political leaders. The change in via del Nazareno has dominated the media scene in the last month: if the quotations of the new secretary PD Enrico Letta (26,645) are added to those of the former Nicola Zingaretti (16,003), we are close to those of Draghi. Furthermore, Zingaretti himself is in fifth place in the top ten which establishes the supremacy, in terms of media visibility, of politicians over government officials. Only four ministers are part of it: the head of the health department Roberto Speranza is third with 21,490 citations, a number almost three times higher than those of the ministers of economic development Giancarlo Giorgetti (7,619), of Labor Andrea Orlando (7,351) and della Cultura Dario Franceschini (6.705), clearly detached in eighth, ninth and tenth position. Behind Speranza we find the leader of the League Matteo Salvini (17,647), while the former premier – now leader in pectore of the M5S – Giuseppe Conte is sixth (13,736), present in the media arena even more than Giorgia Meloni, at the helm of the single opposition party (9,830). Immediately out of the top ten Beppe Grillo with 6,534 mentions. If we look at the government officials alone, the analysis by Mediamonitor.it highlights how the “technical” ministers, despite being at the head of key departments, are further away from the spotlight: this is the case of the Minister of Economy Daniele Franco, sixth with 6,174 citations, from that of Instruction Patrizio Bianchi, eighth (4,966), from the Minister of Justice and former President of the Constitutional Court Marta Cartabia, twelfth (3,333) and from Luciana Lamorgese, head of the Interior and eighteenth (2,391). Still comparing the ministers, the holder of Foreign Affairs Luigi Di Maio (6,364) is only fifth behind Franceschini. In seventh position Mariastella Gelmini (5,378) who, as Minister of Regional Affairs, is at the forefront of coordination with the Regions for the vaccine plan. The least mentioned in the last month are the ministers of youth policies Fabiana Dadone (22nd, with 656 mentions) and of the University and Research Maria Cristina Messa (23rd and last, 423).
