Jinman Han, vice president of Samsung Electronics’ DS division in the Americas, said, “The semiconductor market is expected to rebound starting this year,” and “orders from customers are also increasing.”

Vice President Han made this announcement when meeting with reporters at the DS division semiconductor exhibition hall at ‘CES 2024’ in Las Vegas, USA on the 11th (local time). It is predicted that after the dark period in semiconductor performance that has continued since last year, the situation will turn around this year.

Regarding the outlook for the American market, he said, “This is where technological innovation occurs. The most important place to look is the artificial intelligence (AI) server market.” He added, “The key is whether the AI server market will lead the general server market, which was stagnant last year.” explained.

He added, “Internally, we want to capture more than 50% of the U.S. server market,” adding, “We will increase product competitiveness and accelerate the transition to fleet load.”

He said he is also watching the Chinese market carefully.

Vice President Han said, “We are now seeing signs of a rebound from the Chinese market,” adding, “This includes the Chinese smartphone market. It is expected to rebound in earnest from the second half of the year.”

Regarding the timing of the operation of the new foundry plant in Taylor, USA, he explained, “Construction is currently proceeding well as planned,” and “We are understanding customer needs and negotiating with the US government are progressing well.” Previously, when Samsung Electronics announced its investment in the Taylor factory in 2021, it announced its mass production target for the second half of this year. However, mass production has recently been delayed due to issues with U.S. government subsidies and licensing.

Regarding the criticism that the company is lagging behind its competitor, SK Hynix, in the high-bandwidth memory (HBM) market, he said, “We need to be nervous and work hard,” but added, “The HBM market is growing in earnest. We plan to increase HBM production by 2.5 times this year.”
