‘We will do the impossible, work with allies on a safe corridor’

(ANSA) – LONDON, SEPTEMBER 06 – The British government intends to do “everything possible” to allow the departure from Afghanistan of those who are in danger even after the NATO withdrawal and to give asylum to anyone who has collaborated with London or has in any case “title to be accepted in the UK”. This was stated by Prime Minister Tory, Boris Johnson, updating the House of Commons on his return from the summer break on the Afghan dossier and defending the action of his team from the accusations on the management of the withdrawal addressed to him by the Labor opposition and others.

“We have made commitments,” he stressed, and we are “working urgently with our allies and friends in the region” to ensure that the Taliban guarantee “safe passage” to those who – Afghans or foreigners – are still seeking “safety”.

Johnson then reiterated that the Kingdom intends to host about 20,000 Afghan refugees at risk, including those who remained in the country, 5,000 of which by the end of 2021. A contingent that should add to the more than 8,000 evacuated in extremis to the island with the bridge RAF plane at the end of August.
