The Attorney General’s Office opened an investigation against the councilor of Juradó, Chocó, for alleged participation in a structure that sold narcotics

The Attorney General’s Office ordered the opening of a disciplinary investigation against the councilor of Juradó, Chocó, Fabián Paz Rentería, for his alleged participation in a transnational structure that sent narcotics to Central America and that was dismantled on February 11.

The Regional Instruction of Chocó maintained that, apparently, as part of an operation, 11 people were captured in the municipalities of Chocó and Antioquia, a group of which the municipal official would be a part, and who would be in charge of marketing cocaine hydrochloride to Panama and Costa Rica.

In the same sense, the control body alleged that Paz Rentería allegedly participated in the effort to obtain money with which to manage the reception, collection, custody and preparation of a large quantity of narcotics that were seized.

With this investigation and the request for evidence that was made, the Public Ministry seeks to verify the occurrence of the reported events, determine if they constitute a disciplinary offense; and define whether or not they acted under a cause of exclusion of liability.

About the case in the Prosecutor’s Office

The Attorney General’s Office, together with the National Navy and the National Army, arrested 11 alleged members of a network involved in the trafficking of tons of cocaine from the Choco Pacific to Panama, Costa Rica and the United States.

Among those detained is the alleged leader, José Moreno Bejarano, alias Don Y o Barriga, as well as a councilor from Juradó (Chocó), Fabián Paz Rentería, and other individuals. During the operations, communication devices, banknotes marked with sums of money were confiscated and the network’s connection with groups such as the ELN and the ‘Gulf Clan’ were discovered.

It is believed that Barriga coordinated the acquisition of the drug while other members used different facades to transport it without raising suspicions.

Councilman Paz Rentería, who obtained a high vote in recent elections, was supposedly part of the logistics and would have alerted the other members about the police operations. Those arrested face charges of conspiracy and drug trafficking, which have not been accepted.
