The governor of Alto Paraná, César “Landy” Torres.

The governor of Alto Paraná, César Landy Torres, in commemoration of the 67th anniversary of the departmental capital, stated that the economy of Paraguay depends on the health of Ciudad del Este. He pointed out that the public and private sectors must work together to “return the shine” to Ciudad del Este, the economic engine of the country.

The governor also noted that current challenges include improving infrastructure, guaranteeing safety for tourists and working on the development of the industrial sector. In that sense, he indicated that the Government is promoting short, medium and long projects with the objective of generating employment and attracting investments.

“Alto Paraná and Paraguay depend on Ciudad del Este. Today we must work again to reactivate trade. Particularly, I also believe that it is very important to promote tourism,” said Torres.

The governor noted that among the challenges is improving the city’s infrastructure. “The main challenge for me, especially in the downtown area, is to improve the infrastructure, so that in a certain way tourists can come and shop in a nice and comfortable place. On the other hand, security is always a challenge, because many visitors arrive, to whom we must offer the necessary guarantees,” he said.

Likewise, Landy Torres expressed that tourism is another sector with great potential for the departmental capital. The city has a rich history and culture, as well as beautiful natural landscapes. “Public spaces must be exploited, their conditions improved; in addition to a nice postcard in the municipality so that people can take a photo, a memory; and also work with hotels, tourism agencies, with the objective that tourists who come to Puerto de Yguazú today also come to Ciudad del Este, not only to buy, but to stay for at least two or three days,” he explained. .

Projects

Paraguay and in particular Ciudad del Este are experiencing a good time for business investment. However, the lack of legal security and support from institutions makes the process difficult. “As a departmental government, our duty and commitment is to articulate with the different ministries so that investments are generated and reach Ciudad del Este, either with the installation of industries and can generate jobs. We want the institutions, be it the Ministry of Labor, the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, to be able to land with all their programs to generate opportunities within Ciudad del Este,” he indicated.

Torres highlighted the importance of legal security for the economic development of the city. “Brazilian businessmen see Paraguay as an attractive country to invest in, but the difficulty is giving those guarantees that the investment will be safe and will also have support from the institutions,” he remarked.

The departmental executive also referred to the need to improve the efficiency of public institutions to accompany entrepreneurs and facilitate the investment process. “Institutions, many times, instead of accompanying, generate negative situations; Then, people also get discouraged. For this reason, we have a clear message for all the institutions that today represent the different sectors of society, we are not going to allow it to continue happening,” he indicated.
