China News Service, Xi’an, November 5 (Alina Zhang Yuzhao) A reporter learned from the Pingheliang National Nature Reserve in Shaanxi on the 4th that the staff of the reserve recently found that it was deployed in the reserve when collating the data of the field infrared camera. An infrared camera at an altitude of 2,300 meters in the core area captured a group of images of leopard activities, including 3 photos and 1 video. This is the first time a leopard activity has been captured in the wild in Pingheliang National Nature Reserve, Shaanxi.

Leopard is a carnivorous cat of the genus Panthera, a national first-class protected animal, a vulnerable species in the “World Conservation Union’s Red List of Endangered Species”, and an important measure of ecosystem health.

Shaanxi Pingheliang National Nature Reserve is located in Ningshan County and is the easternmost point of China’s giant panda distribution area. Since 2013, many infrared cameras have been deployed in the Pingheliang National Nature Reserve of Shaanxi Province. The first-class national protected animals that have been photographed include giant pandas, takins, Sichuan golden monkeys, and forest musk deer. The second-class national protected animals include black bears. , Tufted deer, goral, hyena, etc.

According to reports, the video materials and photos of leopards captured this time also fully reflect that the wildlife habitat in the reserve has been effectively protected and the ecological environment has been further improved. (over)
