Storm Louis blows away water tower scaffolding, street closed

Storm Louis caused damage here and there in the south of West Flanders on Thursday evening. The Westhoek fire brigade had to deal with around 80 calls. “The storm damaged many roofs on the Poperinge, Ypres, Zonnebeke, Diksmuide and Kortemark axis,” says Kristof Louagie. Trees and road signs also had to retaliate. In Kortemark, about 10 homes were damaged by a possible gust or downwind. Damage was currently limited in the coastal region.

In the Fluvia fire zone they counted about 37 interventions. For example, a scaffolding on the water tower in the Noordstraat in Menen fell down. Some of it ended up on a house. The street was closed off. “We also had to respond several times to damage that had not yet been repaired after the previous storm. In those cases we cannot do much,” says Philip Stichelbaut of Fluvia. There was also the usual damage caused by branches, crush barriers lying on the road, blown away garden houses and loose gutters.

A scheduled bus ended up in the canal in Oostrozebeke, but there were no passengers. The driver was slightly injured.
