Mafia Capitale, Alemanno sentenced to 1 year and 10 months

ROME. The Court of Appeal of Rome has set the sentence of 1 year and 10 months for the former mayor of Rome, Gianni Alemanno, for the accusations of trafficking in illicit influences and illicit financing in one of the strands of the Mondo di Mezzo investigation. The second degree judges had been called to recalculate the sentence after last July the Supreme Court had acquitted Alemanno of the corruption charge, however, postponing the documents to Piazzale Clodio to recalculate the sentence in reference to the matter of the release of Eur Spa payments.

“After the evident downsizing of the fact following the sentence of the Supreme Court – comments the hostess Alemanno – there remains the bitterness for a sentence that in my opinion is not justified because I continue to proclaim myself innocent”. According to the former mayor, defended in court by the lawyers Filippo Dinacci and Cesare Placanica, «the fact of soliciting the payments of credits due for some time by the public administration cannot be something that is being contested. The bitterness therefore remains even if the downsizing of this whole affair is extremely important. I look forward to reading the reasons before appealing to the Supreme Court ».
