Michigan Murder Suspect Escapes Custody in Montana

PLAINS, Montana – A manhunt is underway in western Montana after a murder suspect escaped custody over the weekend. Chadwick Shane Mobley, a 42-year-old individual from Michigan, managed to remove his handcuffs and shackles at a gas station while being transported to face charges.

According to the Sanders County Sheriff’s Office, Mobley escaped on Sunday while being transported by a private company contracted to the United States Marshals Service. The incident took place in the city of Plains, a small town of about 1,000 people located along the Clark Fork River.

The town, surrounded by mountains and parts of the Lolo National Forest, is now on high alert. Local residents have been advised to remove keys and weapons from their vehicles, lock their houses, and report any suspicious activity. Sanders County Deputy Sheriff Jerry Johnson expressed uncertainty about Mobley’s current whereabouts.

Authorities state that Mobley is wanted in connection with the murder of Andrea Eilber, which occurred in Lapeer, Michigan, in 2011. Michigan’s Attorney General, Dana Nessel, announced last week that Mobley would be charged with murder and other crimes once he was returned to the state.

The breakthrough in the case came last year when DNA evidence found at the crime scene was reanalyzed, linking Mobley to the murder. Eilber was fatally shot in the head at her relative’s home, and now Mobley is on the run, evading justice.

Mobley had been living in Utah but fled to Montana after being questioned by investigators. He was arrested on June 28 in Libby, Montana. The circumstances surrounding the successful removal of his restraints remain unclear.

The United States Marshals Service is actively assisting in the search for Mobley, while local authorities are coordinating with Michigan law enforcement regarding the case. The urgency to apprehend Mobley is high, as he is considered dangerous and should not be approached.

Authorities urge anyone with information about Mobley’s whereabouts to contact the Sanders County Sheriff’s Office or the United States Marshals Service immediately. The manhunt continues as law enforcement agencies work tirelessly to bring the murder suspect to justice and ensure the safety of the community.
