The opposition turns to the mayor: a commission to choose the new names

VALLEY OF CADORE. Naming public streets for female figures who, locally, nationally or even internationally, have distinguished themselves for particular merits: this is the proposal formulated by the councilors of the “Civica Valle-Venas”.

Matteo Toscani, Stefano Del Favero e Igor Olivo have registered a motion addressed to the city council for the mayor Marianna Hofer and the council take action to set up a working group (composed of a member of the council, two municipal councilors, one of which is a minority, and two people to be identified among local history experts) with the task of identifying female figures who locally, nationally or internationally they have distinguished themselves for particular merits and to which they can be named public streets, then delegating the final decision to the city council.

“We participated in the public conference that was held a few days ago in Pieve di Cadore”, Toscani and his team begin, “where it emerged that the number of municipalities in our area in which there is a public street named after a female figure is small . A few years ago, also thanks to the donation of a valuable bronze bust by the Giavi-Langosco family, a monument dedicated to the “Cadore woman” was inaugurated in the hamlet of Venas, contributing to the enhancement of a figure often left in the shadows but vital importance in the local community. A monument appreciated by residents and tourists, created by Annibale De Lotto (1877-1932) who is also the author of the bronze statue of the woman with child placed on the steps of the war memorial near the town hall of Valle. We believe that the conditions exist for dedicating one or more public streets to female figures who, locally, nationally or even internationally, have distinguished themselves for particular merits; and these figures could be identified with the help of a specific work group and of Belluno associations for the protection and enhancement of women. Therefore, “conclude the representatives of the minority,” we have registered the proposal that commits the Administration to create the working group to identify the women to whom to name some municipal streets. It being understood that the final decision will then be made by the city council. We hope that the proposal will be followed up and that we can start working on the initiative within a few days ».
