Mayor Francesco «Cecco» Marengo announces his re-nomination. Employed in the Piedmont Region, 64 years old, he is closing his third term, the first after the two consecutive ones since 2002 and the following five years in the role of deputy to Enzo Baraldi at the helm of the Ruché homeland. There are currently no other candidates for mayor.
For Marengo, a commitment to administration began in 1997 in a community that has just under 1200 inhabitants, between concentric and hamlets, the most populous that of Valenzani.
A commitment that continues in an administration that has changed?
“Essentially only one aspect has changed in these twenty years: the bureaucracy. A lot also for small businesses, where there are fewer resources and fewer staff but the responsibilities of the mayor and administrators are equal to those of the cities. And if I can say the more we go on and the worse it looks ”
What does it feel like with the headband?
«It is a symbol of officialdom and wearing it gives you a feeling of belonging. It is never a banal gesture ”
What was the most demanding project carried out and the one that eventually bequeathed to you?
«The projects are all demanding. Also getting a stretch of road back in order and in these five years we have worked in various areas for maintenance, not just road. It is a commitment until the project is realized. It is after that they all seem easy ».
Fiscal policy?
“We tried to keep municipal rates and taxes to a minimum. We are aware of the difficulties ».
In the social?
«In Castagnole, as in all smaller towns, the great work is done through the Co.Ge.Sa. of which we try to be sentinels, bringing critical issues to the attention of the consortium and its operators by collaborating to solve them ».
The greatest sorrow?
«Not being able to carry out everything that had been planned and planned. For lack of resources and bureaucratic delays ».
Dreams come true and which ones in the drawer?
“The program was almost entirely implemented, compatibly with two years of the pandemic. There is the project, opposed by some, of the motocross track in Valenzani, a process that started a few years ago and is about to close. For us, as we have always maintained, it is a private intervention that can lead to an increase in productivity in the area. This without failing or overshadowing the other attractions, including the landscape ones on which we have worked to enhance them ».
