For some embellishment works the mayor Formia has recruited the roadman He will divide the town: below the commercial part, above the tourist part

Exactly ten years after its renovation, the executive of the mayor Marco Formia redesigns the central Piazza Vittorio Veneto, the former Piazza del Peso, which in the past had been at the center of controversy. The space in the center remains with a paving in porphyry cubes where previously there were seven centuries-old plane trees, but the semicircular bench in stone model amphitheater and a structure that served as a support have been demolished.
«Part of the base – explains Formia – was made of wood. Over the years it had deteriorated almost to rot. Instead of replacing it, we thought of a much simpler furniture with the classic benches that gives more space to the area and requires lower maintenance costs. We are also carrying out the work in economics entrusted to the municipal contractor ».
The square had been rebuilt by the former Comerro administration with the aim of becoming the visiting card of the town, to continue the urban transformation that had improved the already existing dualism: modernity, commerce and services in the lower part of the country, history, culture and tourist vocation in the ancient village around the castle. For the drafting of the project, the administration had launched an ideas competition which had registered 62 project proposals which were then judged by a commission of experts, chaired by the head of the technical office. Among these, three projects were chosen while two others received a mention for urban design and planning innovation. From these ideas the final project of the architect Massimiliano Bonanno di Chivasso was then drawn, who first took into account the need for parking spaces, as three commercial activities overlook the square without distorting the landscape value. The expense had been 100 thousand euros. Half of these derive from a regional contribution of 40 thousand euros. The project also included the construction of a section of a sidewalk on the opposite side of the square. Many, however, had opposed the cutting of old trees. –
