The Comptroller General of the Republic of Colombia (@CGR_Colombia) has revealed after six months of inspection, that a group of 18 Health Promotion Entities (EPS) would have diverted more than $9 billion of resources intended for care during the pandemic.

According to the report presented, these EPS used the funds transferred by the National Government in advances for purposes that do not correspond to public health.. Among the expenses detected are payments to their own clinics, personal fees, fines and even the purchase of real estate.

The diverted resources come from the Capitation Payment Unit (UPC), the amount that the Government pays for each patient in the contributory regime. Annually, It is estimated that between $80 and $90 billion are spent with the aim of guaranteeing services health for the population.

To reach these alarming conclusions, the financial statements of the EPS were thoroughly audited and compared with the records presented to the DIAN and the National Health Superintendency.

This diversion of funds intended for patient care during the pandemic has generated great concern. Given this situation, the Comptroller’s Office has announced that it will transfer the report and its findings to the corresponding control organizations so that the necessary processes can be carried out.

“This is how the resources, which were intended to care for patients during the pandemic, were diverted into payments that did not correspond to this purpose. For this reason, the report and its findings will be transferred to the control organizations so that the corresponding processes can be carried out,” says Minsalud.
