More than 3,962 suspected cases of Monkey Pox including 375 confirmed and 192 deaths were reported on June 6, during a press briefing by the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development, Public Health, Hygiene and Prevention as well as Fishing and Breeding.
This Monkey pox disease, otherwise known as “Monkey pox” is progressing in the DRC with suspected cases already confirmed.
Dr. Jean-Jacques Muyembe, Director General of the National Institute for Biomedical Research (INRB), according to him, felt that this situation makes the fight against Mokey pox disease an emergency in the DRC.
It should be noted that in Ecuador, there are more than 700 cases of the Monkey pox epidemic, of which 58 deaths have been recorded since January 2023. Tshopo already has 45 deaths recorded in 4 months.
It should also be noted that this press briefing was organized with funding from USAID and the technical support of Breakthrough Action, with the aim of raising awareness among the national and international community to get involved in eradicating the said disease which is rampant in the DRC.
A large batch of leaflets and other tools was handed out on this occasion by the country director of Breakthrough Action, in order to intensify awareness.
