The Biden administration has granted humanitarian parole to over 400,000 migrants from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela who entered the United States legally on commercial flights. According to the United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP), a significant number of Venezuelans have received this permit, allowing them to work legally in the US for two years. Other migrants, including Cubans, Haitians, and Nicaraguans, have also benefited from this measure.
On the other hand, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has expelled or returned more than 660,000 individuals from May 2023 to April 2024, the majority of whom crossed the southwest border. This marks a significant increase in removals compared to previous years.
In March 2024 alone, the US Border Patrol recorded over 137,000 encounters with migrants between ports of entry along the southwest border. Although these numbers have decreased compared to previous months and years, the issue of migration and border security remains a top priority for the Biden administration.
