On Saturday, May 4, 2024, Moroccans and Dutch commemorated the anniversary of the martyrdom of Moroccan soldiers, heroes of the battles of World War II, in recognition of their sacrifices for the sake of gaining the freedom and independence of Europe, especially the Netherlands, with the approval and directives of the late His Majesty King Mohammed V, who authorized the participation of these soldiers in the ranks of the French forces. and the Allies to defend freedom during the war against Nazism.

On the occasion of this historic day, a group of Moroccan fathers in the city of Utrecht, in cooperation with the Moroccan Consulate General in the same city, commemorated this occasion and paid tribute to their brave soldiers who died during World War II, most of whom were buried in the French cemetery in the Dutch city of Kabul.

The ceremony began with the playing of the Moroccan national anthem in a hall in Utrecht, in the presence of a large number of members of the Moroccan community residing in the Netherlands, in addition to Dutch people interested in military history. Consul General Buthaina Al-Kardoudi and Abdo Al-Qadiri, Assistant Consul General, also participated in the commemoration.

In her speech, the Consul General pointed out the importance of this historical event, the role of Moroccan soldiers in World War II, and how this memory reflects the sacrifices of the martyrs for the freedom and dignity of nations.

She also talked about the role played by Moroccan soldiers in liberating Morocco from French colonialism, as participation in World War II was a condition for that. She stressed the importance of preserving and documenting this memory to serve as an example for future generations.

In conclusion, the attendees headed to Hochgraven Square in Utrecht, where the Consul General laid a wreath of roses to pay tribute to the souls of the martyrs, stressing the importance of celebrating this anniversary as a symbol of sacrifice and loyalty to the homeland and promoting the values ​​of peace and coexistence among peoples.
