Melsele –
A motorcyclist was seriously injured in Melsele on Saturday afternoon after his motorcycle crashed into the side of a van.
The accident happened around 2 p.m. on the Heirbaan, a quiet rural road between Haasdonk and Zwijndrecht, in the territory of Melsele. A motorcyclist coming from the direction of Haasdonk crashed his motorcycle into the side of a van coming from the opposite direction that wanted to turn left into the driveway of a local fruit and vegetable shop.
The blow was particularly heavy. An ambulance and a MUG team arrived on the scene and administered first aid to the motorcyclist. The middle-aged man was taken to the Antwerp Cadix Hospital in life-threatening condition. The driver of the van was not injured but was in shock. A traffic expert arrived on the scene to investigate the circumstances in which the accident occurred.
