Mummified at home, the remains of two elderly people were found: no one had been looking for them for months

They found them mummified, dead months ago, perhaps even last fall. An elderly couple, husband and wife, were on the first floor of their home, in Campoformido, a few kilometers from Udine, in Friuli Venezia Giulia. Antonilia Finotto, 72, was found lying on the floor in a bedroom. He, Paolo Simonetti, 66, was in another room. A neighbor called the carabinieri: she hadn’t heard from them since September. the couple was often abroad, they traveled face to face even for long periods. For this reason the relatives had not reported his disappearance. Then the months became too long.

As reconstructed by the Messaggero Veneto, the door was closed from the inside. The firefighters, once forced the entrance, found rubbish and objects accumulated in all the rooms. The police and the firefighters themselves are very cautious about the causes of death, not neglecting any element useful for the investigation: the most obvious reason would be a gas leak, probably due to a malfunction of a stove or heating system. . After the initial investigations, they excluded third party liability. To trace with certainty the date and causes of death, in addition to the autopsy, mobile phones will be examined to verify the latest incoming and outgoing calls or messages.
