PALERMO – The President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, received the governor of Sicily Nello Musumeci in the afternoon at the Quirinale. Accompanied by the Secretary General of the Region Maria Mattarella, Musumeci wanted to make a gift to the Head of State of the first copy of the commemorative medal of the 75th anniversary of the Sicilian Statute, specially commissioned by Palazzo Orleans from the State Mint.

During the cordial meeting, which lasted for almost an hour, the value of regional autonomy and the spirit that led to the granting of the Statute in 1946 was discussed. The effigy of the Trinacria is depicted on the silver medal, representing Sicily as a reference to the ancient symbol of the island and to the geographical configuration characterized by three vertices and three promontories. On the back, in the foreground, the Temple of Concordia in Agrigento and a glimpse of the Cathedral of Palermo and in the background a view of Mount Etna. In the coming days the medal will be delivered to the president of Ars, parliamentarians, mayors and presidents of the island’s municipal councils.
