Naples, expensive tests for unsuspecting patients: a scam to the ASL – breaking latest news

NAPLES – False prescriptions of expensive laboratory tests in the name of totally unsuspecting patients, to obtain undue reimbursement from the regional health service. This is the scam investigated by the Guardia di Finanza of Naples, in an investigation that led this morning – at the request of the investigating magistrate – to house arrest for the legal representatives of two diagnostic centers and to the prohibition measure from exercising the activity for one year for two doctors affiliated with the Asl Napoli 1 Centro. The investigations, coordinated by the Neapolitan Public Prosecutor’s Office, stem from a complaint presented by the ASL itself. Over 100 patients were heard who disavowed prescriptions on their behalf and even claimed, in many cases, that they never went to those diagnostic centers. The health requirements examined allowed the two analysis laboratories to request and obtain an undue reimbursement of over € 58,000, for which the Guardia di Finanza was able to proceed with seizures of an equivalent value against the suspects.
