New York fires 1,430 employees, vaccination requirement ignored

Less than 1% of the workforce but a record number in the sector

(ANSA) – WASHINGTON, FEBRUARY 14 – The city of New York has fired 1,430 employees, including about 900 in the education department, for failing to comply with the requirement of the Covid vaccine. Mayor Eric Adams announced it.

The number of employees who had already been suspended for months without salaries is less than 1% of the total, but this is probably the largest mass layoff of municipal workers in the country.

Another 9,000 are unvaccinated but are asking for exemptions or arguing with unions to avoid layoffs.
