The number of orphans is only increasing at the “Tukinge Yatima” orphanage at the Kasindi-Lubiriha border post in the Beni territory (North Kivu). To date, there are more than 500 residents. What exceeds its capacity to take care of, was alarmed, Des Anges Mairo, the manager of this shelter.
According to Des Anges Maliro, his center has so far more than five hundred orphans whose parents were killed in various armed attacks in the region.
The last wave of about thirty children arrived on Wednesday July 12, announces Des Anges Maliro:
“The new cases that we have just recorded, those that came after the last massacres in Congo ya Sika where people had their throats cut, it’s pitiful. All the massacres that took place in Isale, Karuruma axis, I have just recorded today 34 come. Now, they were all 476. That’s what makes a number of 510 today”.
The head of the “Tukinge Yatima” orphanage, who says she is overwhelmed by this influx, appeals to the government and people of good will for assistance:
“My appeal to the government is first of all for peace, because it is the child who has suffered since the various killings. It has become an additional burden for the Tukinge yatima orphanage. I appeal to people of good will who are listening to me to come to our aid. Whoever has a coat, a paracetamol tablet and anything that can help, think about helping these orphans. Don’t throw food away while these kids are suffering here.”
