On April 30, payments for the Citizen Income program begin

The director of Social Prosperity, Gustavo Bolívar, pointed out that from April 30 to May 17, payments corresponding to the first cycle of the Care Valuation intervention line of the Citizen Income program will be made.

A total of 519,408 households will benefit in this first cycle, receiving the sum of 500 thousand pesos. These homes, identified as belonging to Group A of Sisbén IV, are composed of families with children under 6 years of age and headed by a single parentthat is to say, headed by a single person in charge of the children. Additionally, households of the indigenous population that meet the criteria established for the program are included.

To receive the monetary transfer, several steps have been established that beneficiaries must follow. First, they must verify their registration in the program through the official platform. Then, they must ensure that their status is active, which can be verified in the official Social Prosperity channels or in the municipal mayor’s offices.

Once payment availability is confirmed, Beneficiaries will receive a text message from SuRED indicating that the money order is available. Then, they must go to the authorized SuRED or partner point of sale to carry out payment validation and biometric verification, and finally receive the payment and the corresponding receipt.

The departments with the highest number of beneficiaries in this first cycle include La Guajira, Córdoba, Bolívar, Valle del Cauca, Nariño and Antioquia.

Households that did not meet the criteria for this line of the program may be considered for other lines of intervention, such as Colombia Without Hunger, which will begin its implementation in July 2024 and will be aimed at households in extreme poverty that are not included in the Care Assessment line.

The objective of President Gustavo Petro is to direct subsidies towards those who need it most, promoting the overcoming of extreme poverty and strengthening the popular and community economy through the Citizen Income program, which will have national coverage in all departments and municipalities of the country.
