Dragon Dance Festival Lights Up Huizhou City

On the evening of February 23, the eve of the Lantern Festival, Huizhou City in Guangdong province was ablaze with the “Colorful Intangible Cultural Heritage Festival”. Co-sponsored by the Intangible Cultural Heritage Department of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Guangdong Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, and the Huizhou Municipal People’s Government, the event was a spectacle to behold.

Teams from all over the country gathered in Huizhou to participate in the festival, showcasing their unique dragon dance performances. From the sparkling fireworks dragon of Chongqing to the traditional dragon dancing and flower peeping by the Miao people from Guizhou, the audience was treated to a cultural feast.

The night was not without its surprises, as the Fumei Youth English Chorus from Puning captivated the audience with their powerful performance. Coach Li Junhao shared his pride in seeing Lingnan folk culture being spread abroad.

The excitement continued on the Lantern Festival day, with parade teams from all over the world joining in a 3.6-kilometer parade through the city. Over 1,200 people, including 71 representative inheritors of intangible cultural heritage, took part in the celebrations.

The Dragon Dance Festival in Huizhou City was a true representation of the diversity and vibrancy of Chinese culture, showcasing the rich heritage that has been passed down through generations. The event not only entertained the audience but also served as a reminder of the importance of preserving and promoting intangible cultural heritage.

As the festival came to a close, it left a lasting impression on all who attended, bringing communities together in a celebration of tradition and artistry.
