The National Agency for Regulation, Control and Sanitary Surveillance (Arcsa) carried out several operations to monitor compliance with the regulations and prevent the smuggling of tobacco-based products.
In the provinces of Chimborazo, Tungurahua, Cotopaxi and Pastaza, technicians from this State portfolio visited 61 establishments including: stores, micromarkets, liquor stores, supermarkets, marketers, street vendors and kiosks. As a result of these operations, 3,231 cigarettes were seized by the Police Station and 10,257 products in units were disposed of in these provinces. With the amount currently detected, authorities stressed that so far in 2023, Arcsa has managed to identify more than 125,000 cigarettes throughout the country. These actions will be maintained permanently to continue contributing to compliance with regulations and the fight against smuggling. In Riobamba, this action was developed in an articulated manner, allowing positive results to be achieved.
At the national level, this operation covered more than 200 establishments in 24 cantons of the country, and had the support of elements of local Police Stations and Police Departments, allowing the detection of 48,400 units of cigarettes that did not have the health warning labeling required by Law Organic for the Regulation and Control of Tobacco (LORCT) for its sale.
