Codechocó reported that it rescued an owl (𝘈𝘴𝘪ó 𝘤𝘭𝘢𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘰𝘳) in the city of Quibdó that was in danger, since it was in a place not suitable for its survival.
The specimen is in the fledgling stage and is not yet flying, so it was relocated to a safe place.
Like all birds, the owl is oviparous and, depending on the species, it can lay up to ten eggs, although the most common is three or four. Females can nest throughout the year, but the most intense time is close to spring.
The chick is cared for by both parents, but during the incubation period the female remains in the nest and the male goes out in search of food. To lay their eggs they usually take advantage of natural cavities in trees, cliffs or abandoned nests of other birds.
The most characteristic thing about the relationship between owls is that they are capable of being with the same partner for the rest of their lives, although they have to separate during some time intervals or times of the year that are not ideal for mating.
The owl is carnivorous and usually hunts prey that is smaller or almost the same size as itself. Due to its developed senses of sight and hearing, it usually hunts at night. It feeds mostly on lizards, rabbits, spiders, insects, snails, worms, other birds and, sometimes, fish.
