CESIOMAGGIORE. Piave cheese protagonist on TV in the United States, thanks to the chef, presenter and writer Lidia Bastianich and her television program “Lidia’s Kitchen”.

The gastronomy expert, a naturalized Italian from the United States and mother of Joe Bastianich, visited the Belluno area for the filming of the show, discovering Piave Dop cheese.

“Lidia’s Kitchen”, a program for lovers of good food, which has been broadcast regularly for more than 20 years on American national television, PBS (Public Broadcasting Service), has a total of 6 million weekly viewers.

The images of Piave Dop cheese and Garda Doc wine, partner of Piave in the promotion campaign, were shot in the respective territories of the two protection consortia to make the American public aware of the characteristics, the origin, the secrets of production and the curiosity of the cheese of the Dolomites and of the Garda wine.

For the Piave cheese, the shots, made in the province of Belluno, told the mountain pastures, the Piave river and underlined the close link between this cheese and its territory of origin, a link that indelibly determines the peculiarities of its character. expression of the mountain tradition.

The various phases of the production process continued: adding lactic ferments and rennet to cow’s milk, curdling, portioning, pressing, marking through the use of molds where the inscription “Piave ”, Maturation and salting up to the maturing warehouses which represent the last stage of production.

The films made will be inserted in several four episodes of the Lidia’s Kitchen 2021-2022 season, between November of this year and February of 2022 with a diffusion also on social channels.

«We are very honored to have hosted Lidia Bastianich, an Italian-American chef of international fame», comments Chiara Brandalise, director of the Consortium for the protection of Piave PDO cheese. “It was a wonderful opportunity to tell the American public about the elements that make PIAVE cheese unique and its close and indissoluble link with the territory of origin, the Belluno mountains”.

The initiative is part of “A perfect pairing”, a three-year campaign promoted by the Consortium and carried out together with the Garda Consortium, with the co-financing of the European Union.

Through this campaign, the two protection consortia undertake to spread in the United States of America the knowledge and recognition of the production and quality of the DOP and IGP protection brands, of which Belluno cheese is the vehicle.
