Li Qiang Meets with President of Asian Development Bank Masatsugu Asakawa
Beijing, July 11 (Xinhua) ā Premier Li Qiang had a meeting with President of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), Masatsugu Asakawa, at the Great Hall of the People on July 11. They discussed the important role of ADB in promoting poverty reduction and development in the Asia-Pacific region, as well as addressing regional and global challenges.
Premier Li Qiang acknowledged ADBās significance as a multilateral development institution in the Asia-Pacific region and expressed Chinaās willingness to deepen cooperation with ADB and other parties. He emphasized the importance of jointly contributing to sustainable recovery, prosperity, and stability in the Asia-Pacific region, and providing impetus to the world economy.
Li Qiang highlighted Chinaās focus on promoting high-quality development and emphasized the potential for future cooperation with ADB. He encouraged ADB to support and participate in Chinaās reform and opening up process, particularly in areas such as environmental protection, green development, and low-carbon development. He also urged ADB to enhance cooperation benefits and mobilize climate funds to help developing members enhance climate adaptation and financing capabilities.
Furthermore, Li Qiang urged multilateral development institutions, including ADB, to call on developed countries to fulfill their responsibility in reducing emissions and providing financial and technical support. He emphasized the importance of creating necessary conditions for developing countries to cope with climate change and achieve sustainable development.
Masatsugu Asakawa expressed appreciation for ADBās strong and close partnership with China. He acknowledged Chinaās significant contribution to economic growth in the Asia-Pacific region and expressed ADBās willingness to strengthen cooperation with China. Asakawa emphasized the potential for collaboration in the areas of knowledge creation, green development, and addressing climate change. He also expressed a desire to share Chinaās successful development experience with other countries in the Asia-Pacific region.
