A few days after concluding his period as prosecutor, Barbosa is once again in the quarrel with President Gustavo Petro after being accused of ‘sedition’, that is, of preparing arrests against other officials from his direction.
Faced with this accusation, Barbosa’s response was immediate, stating that it would be a ‘smokescreen’.
In fact, according to the prosecutor, these accusations coming from the president would be a manifestation of desperation in the face of the problems that directly link him to his son Nicolás, currently facing trial for money laundering and illicit enrichment.
Additionally, Barbosa emphasized that this could constitute a direct threat against him and his judicial branch.
“It seems to me that it is a threat against me, against the judicial branch of public power, against the Attorney General’s Office; “I believe that the President, in his despair at the number of problems he is having in his government, tries to insult the Prosecutor, to insult justice and to insinuate that we are acting against him,” he expressed.
However, prosecutor Barbosa emphasized that these statements are ‘absurd’ affirming that he has acted in accordance with the law, he also reiterates that Petro lost the governance of the country and control of security.
“The country’s security and governability completely got out of control and given that circumstance, attacks the attorney general, pointing out that the entity is persecuting him, even two weeks after I leave office (…),” said the current prosecutor.
