Prosecutor investigating Uribe for fraud and bribery resigns

This Tuesday, the Attorney General’s Office announced the resignation of the prosecutor in charge, Andrés Palencia Fajardo, who was leading the investigation against former President Álvaro Uribe for alleged procedural fraud and bribery of witnesses.

The entity appointed a new prosecutor to continue this investigation.

Through an official statement, the Prosecutor’s Office explained that Palencia Fajardo’s resignation was due to personal reasons linked to the health of your family. In order to maintain the investigative activity and not generate delays in the process against former President Uribe, The entity assigned the case to the 12th Delegate Prosecutor before the Supreme Court of Justice.

«The 10th Delegate Prosecutor before the Supreme Court of Justice presented his resignation today citing personal reasons, related to the health of your family. Given the judicial vacancy presented, and with the purpose of continuing the investigative activity related to the process being followed against former President Álvaro Uribe, for procedural fraud and bribery of witnesses, the case has been assigned to the 12th Delegate Prosecutor before the Court for what is pertinent,” the Prosecutor’s Office said in its statement.

The news generated various reactions, and Senator Iván Cepeda spoke through his X account, urging the Attorney General, Francisco Barbosa, not to delay the decision in the Uribe case, remembering that the judicial terms are institutional and not personal.

«Fiscal Barbosa, the judicial terms are not personal, but institutional. “We cannot continue to delay the decision in the case of former President Uribe forever in the hope of his prescription,” said Senator Cepeda.
