Prosecutor’s Office investigates leak of the video of the capture of Nicolás Petro

The Attorney General’s Office announced that it opened an investigation into the leak of the video of the moment of the arrest of Nicolás Petro Burgos, the president’s son, which occurred at his residence in July 2023.

Nicolás Petro’s defense lawyer had already announced it, denouncing that this leak constitutes a flagrant attack against the privacy of the president’s son.

Thus, the Prosecutor’s Office has issued an official statement announcing the opening of a criminal report to clarify those responsible. behind the release of the video, a vital element within the ongoing judicial process.

«The video published by Semana Magazine, where the capture of citizen Nicolás Petro Burgos is exposed“, carried out in July 2023, is part of the process carried out by the investigating entity and which is currently in the trial stage,” reads the official statement issued by the Prosecutor’s Office.

This measure seeks to identify those responsible for the leak of a material of approximately 13 minutes long, considered a key piece in the development of the ongoing judicial process.

It is essential to remember that the capture procedure of Nicolás Petro Burgos took place on July 29, 2023 and was presented before a guarantee control judge, who a day later, on July 30 of the same year, validated the legality of said capture.

“The Prosecutor’s Office announces an investigation into the illegal leak to Semana magazine of the video of my capture. They should have also done so when the same magazine was handed over my interrogation. Why didn’t they do it? As on that occasion, the video of my capture was in custody in the office of Prosecutor Mario Burgos, therefore, the responsibility for the new illegal leak falls on him,” said Nicolás Petro.
