Huilense journalism mourns the loss of one of its references, José Israel Charry, who died at the age of 73 at the Uros clinic in Neiva.

According to the known information, the death of the renowned communicator occurred after facing a fight against a oncological disease that kept him in the intensive care unit.

With a prolific and diverse career, Charry stood out as an experienced political journalist, leaving a significant legacy in various media, including this publishing house.

He began his career in Voz del Huila alongside figures such as Edgar Artunduaga and Jorge Parga Vanegas. His talent and dedication led him to work at Caracol Radio and to be Press Chief of the Chamber of Representatives.

For many years, he covered the Presidency of the Republic, demonstrating his ability and commitment in the political sphere. In addition, he was Political Editor of DIARIO DEL HUILA, showing his passion for information and his connection with the region.

José Israel Charry, a public administration professional at ESAP, also ventured into public life, serving as Mayor of Baraya and Villavieja, as well as Private Secretary of the former attorney Carlos Mauro Hoyos.

Born in Bogotá but with Huila roots, Charry was the cousin of the current President of Colpensiones, Jaime Dussán Calderón. He leaves a journalistic legacy that marked an era and contributed to the development of communication in Colombia.
