Data from the Monitoring Center: carelessness when driving is often decisive. In 2019, there were 59 victims
TREVISO. Carelessness behind the wheel, and (prohibited) use of the mobile phone while driving. These are the factors underlying accidents in the Marca. Most are autonomous spills, followed by frontal and side collisions.
In this terrible 2021 the hours between 4 and 7 in the morning are dangerous again. For a decade, the riskiest groups had been those linked to entry and exit from work.
The Province, with data from the Road Safety Monitoring Center, restarts from the 2019 framework, to relaunch its action in the face of the summer emergency, with 24 victims on the Treviso roads in less than three months.
“We based our actions on these data, now we need to raise awareness”, warns the president Stefano Marcon, recalling how the Center works in synergy with the carabinieri, polstrada and local police forces of the 94 Treviso municipalities.
«From the analysis of the last three years, excluding the anomalous 2020 year, we based our concrete actions», adds Marcon, «they had removed the funds from the Provinces until they realized how fundamental we were. Now we are finally back to investing, with the calls dedicated to municipalities for works. And we have more in the pipeline, thanks to the analysis of the data carried out by the Center with our scrupulous offices and above all the careful survey of the carabinieri, traffic police and local police who daily carry out tireless and fundamental work in the area. The dead of the last few days hurt, very badly: the alarm bell of a phenomenon that we have already understood thanks to the data and for which we have already started to act for some time ».
In In 2019 there were 56 victims (3,085 injured), confirming the positive trend to reduce deaths, which dropped to 53 in 2017. In 60%, accidents with deaths involve cars, followed by motorcycles (13%), trucks (11%) and bicycles (10 %). For accidents with injuries, on the other hand, the private car predominates: 72%.
The painting 2019 saw 310 autonomous spills, 12 fatal to 15 people (27% of deaths for the entire year). None of them had been reported to have failed to comply with the speed limits, and often there were optimal weather conditions, dry road surfaces and straights: therefore they were accidents attributable to carelessness. That year the fines for the use of smartphones and driving (+ 25%) and for the lack of seat belts (+ 40%). “The return to a sort of normality has brought with it the return of traffic, but distraction and inattention are a constant”, concludes Marcon, “Ready to do all our actions, like the previous administrations, I appeal to everyone why not let your guard down, never. Whether you are behind the wheel of a car, on a motorcycle, on a bicycle, on a scooter or on foot. The danger occurs as we have seen due to our inattention, perhaps just when we are a stone’s throw from home, when we feel safe. Attention, always. We can eliminate deaths on the roads ».
